The Maker
Rooted in tailoring
Serpentin Studio is a project of Ideal Tailoring — a bespoke tailoring studio based in Switzerland. For years, Ideal Tailoring has worked with the finest cloth mills in Britain, Italy, and France: sourcing, handling, and working materials that most people never get to touch. That relationship with exceptional fabric is where Serpentin Studio begins.
We know what good cloth feels like. We know which mills have been doing this for centuries and which are simply trading on reputation. That knowledge — built through years of direct relationships with weavers across Europe — is the foundation every Serpentin Studio notebook is built on.
The Material
Fox Brothers & Co.
Wellington, Somerset · est. 1772
When we decided to make a notebook, the cover material was not a design decision — it was a sourcing decision. We knew what we were looking for: a cloth with enough weight to hold its shape, enough texture to feel honest in the hand, and enough history to mean something.
Fox Brothers has been weaving fine wool in Somerset since 1772. Their cloth has been worn by Winston Churchill, stocked by the finest tailors on Savile Row, and carried by soldiers in two world wars. British wool — in particular from the West Country — is known for its density and durability. It does not pill. It does not fade. It improves with handling.
Nothing else came close. Fox Brothers' tartan is now the defining surface of every Serpentin Studio notebook. Their authenticity label is sewn directly onto the back cover — a mark of provenance, not decoration.
The Philosophy
Quality over quantity
There is a growing number of people who write by hand not because they have to, but because they want to. People who reach for a notebook instead of a screen — not out of nostalgia, but out of a deliberate choice to think more slowly and hold things more carefully.
These are people who understand that a good pen on good paper is a different experience from typing on glass. That a notebook which costs what it costs is not an extravagance — it is a tool built to last, chosen once rather than replaced repeatedly.
Serpentin Studio is made for that kind of person. We did not try to make something for everyone. We made something we believed in, in the quantities we could stand behind — fifty pieces per format.
